Our season ended with Dave Kranz and I in 8th Place for the circuit and 12th place in the Championship.

I guess Dave and I hold the record for Mutiny with our 1st place win in June of 18.05 lbs! That's pretty cool, as was the check!

I really enjoyed fishing a tournament, it won't be my last.

Thanks to St. Croix Rods and Daiwa for making amazing products that brought many fish into the boat! Big thanks to Mutiny Bass Angler's for all of your hard work and dedication in making this a great circuit! Thanks to all of the other Angler's that welcomed me and thanks to Kurt at Musky Tales for supporting us and making coffee, early morning bonfires and great food!

It was great seeing Violet Talley and Phil Piscitello and his wife Kimberly at the weigh-in on Sunday!

Pre-fished Lake Geneva today for Sunday's Anglers Choice Tournament with Doug Becker.

We had a fun morning, we are looking forward to tournament day!

Whenever prepping for a tournament, my tools are the first things that take precedence. If you don't choose the right tools, the spots, the fish...they don't matter. You have to make sure you have the right rod, reel, line, terminal tackle and baits. That starts with St. Croix Rods and Daiwa reels for me, every time because, they never let me down.

Had a 2 hr window this morning and I have been itching to get out on foot.

Armed with my St. Croix Legend Elite spinning 6'3 rod with a Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500 reel, I started at the Fox River, the water, as expected was quite low. Caught lots of babies, that was fun to have the little wigglers on.

I needed something with more of a pull after a while so a quick stop at a local pond was in order. Switched to a 7' St. Croix Legend Elite with a Bizz Baits worm and caught the largemouth and had another on before I had to go.

New techniques to catch more walleye are constantly emerging and evolving. Weve been casting lipless crankbaits and glide baits a few years now and still learning the different nuances of the technique to successfully catch fish on the Great Lakes. There are many things to consider to increase your catch rate: rod power, rod action, rod length, line choice, and reel size are all important components of this presentation. Combine these with fish location, water depth, water clarity, water temp, time of day/year, imitating the targeted food source, and you can see why hours of practice and experimentation are necessary for success.Recently, I spent some time on Green Bay casting Rapala Rippin Raps and Moonshine Lures Shiver Minnows hoping to fine-tune this technique and identify the best equipment for the job. Ive been rotating through three St. Croix Rods, two Daiwa reels, and two combinations of Sunline braid and flourocarbon line choices. Each has their advantages in either shallow or deeper water, size of lure, and type of retrieve.Look for future updates as we dial in the best rod, reel, and line combinations for this technique.Location: Green Bay, WIPresentation: Casting lipless crankbaits and glide baitsRods:St. Croix Rods Legend-X 68MXF (Medium power, Extra-Fast action) Legend Elite 66 MLF (Medium-Light, Fast)Legend Elite 60 MF (Medium, Fast)Reel: Daiwa Ballistic 2500Line: 16 lb. What a day on Delavan!! Doug and I caught over 50 fish this morning. It was a calm morning but once we got those 1/2 oz. football jigs in those weeds, those bass just couldn't resist. I had what looked like a really nice walleye on first thing with a trap, but it came off. I was using my St. Croix Legend Elite 7' MH Spinning rod with a Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500 Spinning reel. Light weight, powerful and so sensitive...winning combo! #stcroixrods #bestrodsonearth #daiwareels #daiwausa

The morning started out promising with bites....then, we had to work for them.
I don't mind work, especially the fishing kind!

We ended up catching quite a few largemouth, Doug caught a real nice smallie and my last catch was a Northern that turned at the boat and...that dreaded, Plink! Bye, bye lure.

Fun day, rain per usual but no storms.

Spent some time on Lake Winnebago casting light jigs on rock reefs to catch some aggressively feeding walleye. We were tipping the 1/8 oz. jigs with half of a nightcrawler and carefully casting or pitching onto the top or edges of the rock and gravel. The key was to slowly drag or slightly lift the bait along the hard bottom. Caught fish up to 21 but most were 16-19 long. A medium-light power, extra-fast action rod was key in detecting bites. Also, using a hi-vis main line assisted in knowing where your jig was at all times.Location: Lake Winnebago, Oshkosh, WIPresentation: Jigs and nightcrawlersRod: St. Croix Rods Legend-X 610MLXFReel: Daiwa Ballistic 2500Line: 10 lb. Calm morning on Lake Geneva this morning. I met up with Doug Becker of JD Guide Service to do some Bass fishing.

As soon as we started to cast, my favorite, Loons, started to sing. That always makes me happy!

We had such a fun time, no pics from Doug, even though he had the biggest bass. St. Croix Rods and Daiwa reels putting fish in the boat, passion meets technology....there's nothing like it on the water.

Dave Kranz and I came in with a good limit on Sunday at the Mutiny Bass Anglers tournament on the Chain. Many others did as well, 31 out of 36 boats came in with their limit. We had a good day, didn't have the weight for a check, but we'll be back in a few weeks to do it again. #stcroixrods #bestrodsonearth #daiwausa

I haven't fished the river near home in a while, so I stopped to say hello to my Smallies this morning.

It was so nice to be out. A beautiful mature Bald Eagle soared over head as I greeted each bass and released them back their homes.

I was using small plastics on my St. Croix Legend Elite Rod (ES63MXF), paired with my Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500 reel.

Yesterday, Dave and I fished our 2nd Mutiny Bass Anglers tournament of the season. We came in with our limit and a bag weighing 13.57 lbs.

I was fishing with my St. Croix Rods Legend Elite Spinning 7' MF and 7' MHF and both were set up with Daiwa Balliatic LT 2500 reels. I am amazed every time with this rod and reel combo. I absolutely love it!!

Great day on Green Bay in Oconto, Wisconsin chasing walleye. Launched at 5:30 AM and caught the sunrise of a sunny Spring day. Looking for warm, stained water in depths 8-15, we were casting #6 Rapala Rippin Raps on spinning tackle. Best colors were silver/blue, chartreuse/black back, and a custom purple/antifreeze green. Used a 610 St. Croix Legend Extreme rod, size 2500 Daiwa Ballistic reel spooled with 12 lb. Sunline SX1 green braid and a 3 section of 14 lb. Sunline Shooter Clear Flourocarbon as a leader.#stcroixrods #bestrodsonearth #daiwausa #sunlineamerica #rapala #walleye #walleyefishing

Jigging for Spring Walleye and SaugerIts Spring and that means rivers are the first option to catch walleye and sauger in the Midwest. Ive been fishing rivers since late February down here in Illinois, recently in Wisconsin, and its a great time of year to use jigs with either minnows or plastics. If youve seen any of my recent posts youll notice consistency in the equipment. For either vertical jigging, dragging jigs, or casting jigs on rivers in Spring, here is my go-to setup:Rod: A medium power, extra-fast action spinning rod is a great choice. I fish the St. Croix Legend-X 68 MXF. (XLS68MXF)Reel: A small to medium size spinning reel, size 1000 to a 2500, like a Daiwa 2500 Ballistic, available and redesigned in 2018 as the Ballistic LT. (BLSLT2500D)Line: A hi-vis braid to help see the line in the dirtier water of Spring. I use either 10 lb. test Sunline SX1 or TX1 Yellow Braid.Jigs: Choose the right weight for the depth you are fishing. Generally I use 1/8 oz. to 1/2 oz. in water 2-20 deep. I fish Docs Custom Jigs in various colors: Orange, Chartreuse, Antifreeze Green, and Robin Egg Blue are favorites.#stcroixrods #bestrodsonearth #daiwausa #sunlineamerica #docscustomjigs #walleye #walleyefishing

A few weekends ago I was invited by river legends John Smith and Gary Merkel to fish the Spring Valley Walleye Classic on the Illinois River. We caught 32-33 saugers, all about the same size, our best 5 weighed 10.84 pounds, and finished 5th. All of us used two St. Croix Rods each to catch our fish, either Legend X, Legend Elite or Legend Tournament Walleye.

Location: Illinois River, Spring Valley, IL

Presentation: Jigs and plastics

Rod: St. Croix Rods Legend-X 68MXF

Reel: Daiwa Ballistic 2500

Line: 10 lb. Sunline SX1 Hi-Vis Yellow Braid tied directly to jigs

Jigs: 3/8 and 1/2 oz. Docs Custom Jigs

Bait: various plastic tails

Spent a day on the Fox River in Green Bay, WI chasing the early season walleye bite with my buddy Mike Lewis. Jigs and minnows were preferred over jigs and plastics or blade baits. Mike stayed busy with 3/8 oz jigs and fathead minnows pulled slightly downstream in the very light river current. Mike caught this bonus Musky on a bridge piling. I experimented with jigs and various plastic tails and also 1/2 oz. blade baits. The fish overwhelmingly wanted the minnows that day!!Equipment: Fished the brand new Legend X from St. Croix Rods, using the 68 Medium Extra-Fast Spinning rod (XLS68MXF) to vertical jig 3/8 ounce Docs Custom Jigs on the channel edges. The reel is a size 2500 Daiwa Ballistic spooled with 10 lb. test Sunline SX1 Hi-Vis Yellow Braid tied to a size 10 Spro Power Swivel. Tied to the swivel is 18 of 10 lb. Well, that's a wrap for me and Spring Rainbows. Brought in three, had a few get off and a few short strikes. It was another beautiful morning.

They did a controlled burn yesterday, which cleaned the place up. I wish I knew about it, it's cool to watch.

I enjoyed talking to so many St. Croix Rods fans this week. Almost every person that walked up to me was carrying one or plans to buy one.

The St. Croix Legend Elite and the Daiwa Ballistic LT combo just kept making me smile. So light, so sensitive, casts are long and smooth. I was able to let some folks cast with it for a bit.

Now to get ready for Bass Tournaments!

One of my favorite parts of fishing, besides catching, is the peacefulness.

This morning, I found just that, both actually.

Armed with my St. Croix Legend Elite and Daiwa Ballistic LT reel, I walked on the crunchy, dewy grass to my spot bright and early.

Missed a few and had four others hooked that wiggled off. I put two on the stringer before having to leave. I will be back tomorrow...I love peaceful catching!!
