I'm a little late on this but I want to thank Capt Jerry Dilsaver for writing this article in the December edition of Carolina Sportsman. We had a good day of fishing artificials on the Cape Fear. We caught stripers early then hit the flats for reds and trout. We were using 7 St Croix Triumph med/light action rods on the flats pitching weightless baits and 7'4" St Croix Mojo Heavy action casting rods for Stripers.

Went looking for reds on the flats for the first time in a long time. Found some in a handful of different areas. They reacted to category5 shrimp minnows well. One of the reds I caught had gill net marks, he was one of the lucky ones. NC needs to ban gill nets now....enough is enough. The trout were everywhere I went. Got a few decent trout on Category5 soft plastics as well has hard twitch baits. I was using 7' St Croix medium light action rods paired with Shimano Sustain reels spooled with 15 lb test Tuf Line. This is a great set up for winter sight fishing in the Carolinas. It also casts twitch baits a mile, even against the wind.

Here's a few trout me and the girls caught over our Thanksgiving trip to the mountains.

We had a good morning after the rain passed. Lots of action on soft plastics. Bill had the St Croixs bent all morning.
